London Hotels: Kensington

Kensington can be found in the northern part of the borough of Kensington and Chelsea in central London. This upmarket district is just south of Hyde Park and is one of the most expensive property areas in all of the UK. There are two areas to consider, Kensington itself and also South Kensington. The latter offers more hotels and has easy access to the Circle and District tube line which allows fast and simple travel all around London and out to London Heathhrow.

Kensington landmarks include The Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace and the Natural History Museum. No matter which hotel you choose you will be in easy walking distance of many restaurants and bars suited to all tastes and cultures from MacDonalds and Starbucks up to the Michelin star rated Bibendum.

Kensington hotels tend to be 3 star and upwards with very little budget accommodation. The further that you go towards the western parts (Earls Court and West Kensington) in general, the cheaper the hotel prices. Kensington is one area of London where you can walk the streets late at night with very little risk of trouble.

One of the main London hotel requirements in this district is to get easy access to the Royal Albert Hall with its many concerts and of course the Proms and Cirque de Soleil (every January). The John Howard is the closest mid market hotel being less than 5 minutes stroll from the Albert Hall. If you require a "posh" hotel then check out the Royal Garden or the Milestone Hotel.

The southern part is South Kensington and includes the tube stations of South Kensington and Gloucester Road, both on the Circle and District lines which travel all around central London as far east as the City and London Tower. From both stations you can also travel directly to inside London Heathrow Airport with no changes. Harrods is a 15 minute walk past the Natural History and the Victoria and Albert Museums.
