London Hotels: MayfairMayfair is known to everyone world wide as "the" place to book a hotel in London if budget is not an issue. Located between the West End and Hyde Park in central London, Mayfair is extreme upmarket. Covering less than one square mile, Mayfair offers world class hotels which include the Grosvenor House, Browns, The Ritz, Four Seasons, Claridges and the high rise Hilton Park Lane London. All are 5 star and all, as expected, offer the ultimate guest services. For any of these deluxe hotels, prices usually start at around a very minimum of £300 per night for standard bedrooms with breakfast being an additional minimum of £25 per person. Add on a few drinks and you are looking at £400 a night! Mayfair is probably best known for its Park Lane which runs north to south along the perimeter of Hyde Park with views across the Serpentine to Kensington Palace. At its bottom end, you can walk across Green Park to Buckingham Palace in under 5 minutes whilst the shopping district of Knightsbridge and Sloane Square are only a 10 minute walk away. Also in Mayfair is Grosvenor Square and the US Embassy, very close to here is Oxford Street with its huge department stores (John Lewis and Selfridges). Walk west out of Grosvenor Square, passing Claridges Hotel, and you have the uber fashionable shopping areas of Bond Street, South Audley Street and Old Bond Street. The southern part of Mayfair is bounded by Piccadilly, walk along here to visit the bespoke clothing retailers of Saville Row or the fine food mecca of Fortnum and Mason where you can take afternoon tea. If you are looking for a new car then local dealerships include Lamborghini and Rolls Royce. Ferrari are just down the road in South Kensington. Shopping in Mayfair is a grand affair if you have lots of money. Check out the Burlington Arcade with its multitude of unique bespoke goods outlets and also Mount Street for its world class hair salons including Nicky Clarke and Jo Hansford. Restaurants tend to be very upmarket and pricey but of course are top quality. Travel in Mayfair is by the Green park tube station in the south and Bond Street tube in the north but Mayfair is so central that you can easily walk to most attractions possibly with the exclusion of Theatreland which will take 5 minutes in a cab. There are the odd one or two cheaper hotels in Mayfair including Park Lane Mews but it is possible to stay close to Mayfair without involving the 5 star price range. Within one mile are the central London districts of Marble Arch, Bayswater and Kensington, all of which offer lower priced hotels.
