London Hotels: WestendThe West End of London is actually central London with Hyde Park to the west and the City (financial district) to the east. Covering around 5 square miles, the Westend is the where most of the "touristy" attractions are and hotels in this prime area are amongst the most expensive in all of London. The West End, running from west to east, includes Mayfair, Marylebone, Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury, Soho, Holborn, Covent Garden and parts of Westminster. Major landmarks, of which there are hundreds, include Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Oxford Street, British Museum, Covent Garden Market, and, on the border of the West End and Victoria is Buckingham Palace. West End hotels generally run from 4 star to 5 star with the "poshest" being in the Mayfair area around Park Lane and Piccadilly. West End hotels here include the Ritz, Claridges and Browns, all world class accommodations. For more sensible prices have a look at the hotels north of Oxford Street in Marble Arch, Marylebone, Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury. For cheap West End accommodation try around Kings Cross where there are some lovely family run B&B guesthouses. The majority of theatres are in the eastern part around Piccadilly and Covent Garden and a good hotel in this area is the Kingsway Hall Hotel on Drury Lane which offers sensible prices for its good standard. If you are happy to walk for 15 minutes to save money then try the 3 star St Giles Hotel London which is near to Russell Square. Wherever you book your West End hotel, you will have no shortage of nightlife, however, bear in mind that many bars and restaurants on the main streets are there to attract tourists and better quality places can be located on side streets. Better still, ask the Concierge!
